The Department of Chemistry was established in 1980. It offers four different specilization in chemistry with (1) Organic Chemistry, (2)Analytical Chemistry, (3) Physical Chemistry and (4) Inorganic Chemistry. In addition to Master's degree, from 2010 onward, department has also started one year Post graduate diploma course in Sophisticated Analytical Instruments.
M.Sc course is of four semesters with an intake capacity of 100 including 50 self-financed seats. Presently, 42 scholars are pursuing their doctoral work in the department and more than 450 students have been awarded their Ph.DS till date. We will strive to be a vibrant department with continuously involvingmultitask activities that will charter the future of chemical industries of the nation and to be on par with best in the world through the participation. The students of our department will be the torchbearers in education and research and will serve the society.
We will create an atmosphere conductive to generate new knowledge at every opportunities for our students at large. Our education will enable new dimensions in chemistry to meet the needs of all segments of society while protecting the environment and conserving the natural resources. Our endeavors will enhance the public welfare. Our activities will not be limited to the classrooms but will extend to multi-disciplinary platform to conduct research, discovery, technology, development, service to industry and entrepreneurship. We will team chemists with professionals in other disciplines to arrive at better solutions in different fields. Through our vision, we will serve as role models to the younger generation and the society.
